$123,614 – $150,259 Annual

Description:

The Public Defender works (and serves) at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors and is assigned to
work in the Placerville office. The position is responsible for maintaining an active case load typically
consisting of specialized and/or complex cases, as well as managing all operational, administrative and
personnel matters of the Public Defender’s Office.
The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing the departmental budget, goals, objectives
and work standards in addition to furthering County goals and objectives, as well as working collaboratively
with the Chief Administrative Office, the law and justice agencies including the Sheriff, District
Attorney, Probation Department and Superior Court, and other county departments, as well as the
Placerville Police Department and South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

Qualifications:

Demonstrated progressively complex experience in the practice of criminal law from arraignments and trials through the appellate process in complex felony cases. Experience in the management or supervision of professional and support staff as well as experience working in a public defender’s
office are desirable. Pursuant to Government Code Section 27701, the candidate must have been a practicing attorney in all of the courts of the State of California for at least the year preceding the
date of appointment.
