Description:

The Public Defender has full responsibility for directing a County department charged with providing legal defense for any person who is not financially able to employ counsel and who is charged with an offense triable in Superior.

This individual will be a proven executive who is progressive, energetic, responsive, politically astute and confident leader who is flexible, a good problem solver and customer service oriented.  Should be a team player and possess the vision to advance the Agency’s services.  Additionally, this individual will thrive in a high pressure, fast paced, dynamic and changing environment with constantly shifting priorities.  Interpersonal skills and the ability to relate and adjust to a variety of situations and personalities, and to communicate with staff at all levels of the organization.

Qualifications:

Membership in the California State Bar Association and extensive experience in professional legal work, including primary emphasis as a trial attorney in criminal law.  It is expected that the successful candidate will have at least ten (10) years of experience in criminal defense in California, including five years with primary emphasis as a trial attorney in criminal law.
