Description:

Stanislaus County invites qualified candidates who are experienced in practice of criminal law and possess strong administrative, communication, and leadership skills to serve as Public Defender. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the legal activities and services of the Public Defender’s Office. This at-will position is appointed by the Board of Supervisors. This individual administers, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Public Defender’s Office and carries out the objectives of the Board in providing for a safe community. Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications:

The Ideal Candidate

Five (5) years of experience as an attorney in the practice of criminal
law, three (3) years of which must be in an administrative or supervisory capacity over attorney’s providing legal counsel and indigent defense services or comparable legal counsel that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the classification.; AND Active Membership in the State Bar of California;

AND

Possess and maintain a valid California’s Driver’s License at the
time of appointment.
