Description:

Under administrative direction, to plan, organize, direct, and manage the County’s parks and recreation, buildings and grounds, solid waste management, and museum functions; to provide consultation and coordination for public services issues and pertinent codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations; to perform special assignments as directed by the County Administrative Officer and the Board of Supervisors; and to do related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a single-position, department head classification which has responsibility for the direction, oversight, supervision, and coordination of the Public Services Department. The position oversees a multi-division department. This is a discrete classification. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors.

Qualifications:

Any combination of training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a major in public administration, business administration, engineering, or a directly related field.

Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in solid waste management, landfill operations, and/or landfill management work which included at least two (2) years of experience in a management or supervisory position. Experience in parks and recreation planning, development, and services is desirable.

Completion of specialized training and/or advanced education in the areas of solid waste management/landfill construction, design and operations; park design and planning; building engineering, or related management fields is highly desirable.
