Description:

The County of Mono is seeking an experienced and innovative professional to become the Public Works Director with emphasis on overall management skills.  Under the direction of the County Administrative Officer, the Public Works Director plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the County’s Public Works Department, serves as County Engineer and Road Commissioner, oversees the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of roads, public works, landfill, and transportation facilities; develops and implements Public Works ordinances and policies; performs special assignments as directed by the County Administrative Officer and Board of Supervisors. Reviews existing functions of all county public works operations and develop a strategic plan for the delivery of more cost-effective services.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 
Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:    Broad and extensive engineering experience  in planning, development, construction and maintenance of roads and bridges, and other transportation facilities, including at least 5 years in a management or supervisory position.  Formal education/training in civil engineering.
Demonstrated examples of successful department leadership, team building and reorganization with measured improvements in performance and services.
Special Requirements:  Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.  A bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited US college or university, in planning, engineering, public or business administration, public works management or related field is preferred and (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public works management and program and budgetary planning is required.
