$143,000 annually with a 4% increase scheduled effective January 2015

Description:

In the heart of the Gold Country, Calaveras County (population 46,000) is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, 133 miles east of San Francisco and 135 miles south of Lake Tahoe.  The pristine scenery and many recreational opportunities make Calaveras County a phenomenal community in which to live, work and play.  Flat valleys and rolling hills to the west, and the Sierra Mountains and magnificent canyons to the east make up this breathtaking picturesque community.

The County is seeking an experienced public works manager who places a high value on honesty, integrity and collaboration. The Public Works Director is a highly visible position with significant public interaction. This position is responsible for the management of the following divisions: Roads and Bridges, Transit, Engineering, Integrated Waste, Buildings, Grounds, and Fleet, and the Office of the County Surveyor.  The ideal candidate will serve as ambassador for the County in all of their interactions.  The director is expected to model the values of progressive leadership by establishing a sense of team and mutual respect, accountability and recognition for organizational accomplishments.

Qualifications:

This position requires a background that includes five or more years of professional and increasingly responsible public works experience in a city, county or other public sector employment with at least two of those years in a supervisory or management role. Rural county or city experience is highly desirable. An educational background equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, civil engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university is required. Registration as a Licensed Civil Engineer is desirable as is a strong public service ethic and a desire for long-term affiliation with the County.
