The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Administrator’s Office are announcing a recruitment for the position of Safety Officer in the Risk Management Division. There is currently one full-time regular hire vacancy in the Risk Management Division.

The Safety Officer employs specialized technical knowledge and skills to design, implement and deliver compliance programs, procedures and training in order to mitigate environmental and occupational health and safety issues within the County. The Safety Officer handles safety and risk management issues in diverse facility locations involving air quality, industrial hygiene, health sciences, construction and engineering, pollution, transportation, ergonomics, and insurance and inspections as they relate to the County’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program; hazard identification and abatement; and all CAL OSHA or other regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate has worked in a diverse safety department in the public or private sector and is seeking an opportunity to move into a role with greater responsibility for direct program oversight. (S)he has sound knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local occupational safety regulations, laws, codes and standards and is competent to act as a spokesperson for the County in safety-related matters. The ideal candidate has experience developing and presenting safety-related training courses to all levels of staff. S/he is well-versed in statistical analysis, report writing, safety programming and policy and procedure development. This individual will be focused on on-site outreach and engagement and has the ability to foster cooperation and collaboration amongst the diverse parties and risks across a wide range of department exposures throughout the County.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a four-year degree from an accredited college or university in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, environmental safety or a closely related field and four years of professional experience in safety program administration and field work which contains some experience in risk management.

Certificates and Licenses:
A Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or other recognized safety, industrial hygiene, risk management, air quality or environmental related certification is highly desired.
