Description:

The City is currently looking to fill a vacant Senior Accountant opening. This position is located in different units within the Finance Department and is responsible for assisting in planning, organizing, and supervising the accounting activities of the City; Incumbents in this position performs advanced level accounting duties and other technical accounting and financial analysis; and writes technical and informational reports for the City’s executives and policy makers.

This position reports to the Accounting Manager and the current opening is responsible for supervising the Billing Unit with a staff of 9 full-time staff. This Unit is responsible for preparing the City’s and Berkeley Unified School District’s (BUSD’s) special property tax rolls for inclusion on the annual property tax bill; processing Transfer Tax, Seismic Retrofit, low-income, and private sewer lateral refunds; preparing and processing annual business license renewals and residential parking permits; processing new business licenses; administering and issuing taxi, street vendor, massage, and food vendor permits; redeeming taxi scrip; and maintaining the City’s land database.

Qualifications:

Education
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, or a closely related field, which included substantial accounting coursework (including successful completion of intermediate accounting, advanced accounting, governmental accounting, managerial accounting and cost accounting).

Experience
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience, preferably in a governmental or public agency setting.

This experience should include a minimum of one-year supervising accountants. A Certified Public Accountant license is desirable.
