The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Community Development Agency are announcing a recruitment for the position of Senior Civil Engineer. There is one full-time vacancy in the Community Development Agency. The Senior Civil Engineer serves as the supervisory lead over a specialized team of Associate Civil Engineers and other non-engineering staff assigned to the building permitting plan review program of the Building and Safety Division, a major division of the Community Development Agency. Incumbents will be expected to exercise substantial initiative, judgment and expertise in administering the codes, standards and policies of this Division. The position will require supervising the daily activities of plan review staff to ensure the timely review of building permit applications, plans and supporting documents; advising staff on the correct application of laws, regulations, codes, standards and policies relating to the County’s building permitting program; serving as the plan review program liaison to legislative bodies, governmental agencies, other departments, community groups and the public; performing complex and engineering plan review of new and modified structures for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, structural, energy and related regulatory compliance; and coordinating with other partner agencies to standardize countywide plan review standards and protocols.

Qualifications:

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate has registration as a professional Civil Engineer and experience in civil engineering, architecture, construction and structural design related to the construction and modification of structures. The ideal candidate will have experience successfully managing a building permit plan review program, including evaluating applications and completing plan review deliverables on schedule. The ideal candidate effectively manages program staff and consultant resources, makes decisions regarding service quality levels, and makes clear decisions for the effective execution of program policy. In addition, the ideal candidate provides clear interpretation of construction related regulations and policies and maintains successful working relationships with co-workers, governmental boards, partner agencies and members of the general public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers and four years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience which provides the knowledge and skill requirements.
