Description:

Under direction, the CEQA Senior Planner is focused on performing difficult and complex environmental review work pursuant to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and participates in all phases of environmental review. The Senior Planner would also assist the Planning Division in other planning efforts such as policy efforts and current planning review. Duties of the CEQA Senior Planner include preparing standard forms and checklists specifically for Initial Studies and Negative Declarations, prepare environmental documents, assist in selecting environmental consultants, coordinate and oversee CEQA efforts for large planning projects and studies, and assist other planners in review of environmental documents and mitigation monitoring programs.

The CEQA Senior Planner will work under the direction of the Planning Officer and will devote half time to other City departments with CEQA issues for capital projects and other City efforts. The CEQA Senior Planner will be required to stay abreast of current case law and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and coordinating with the City Attorney’s Office for legal advice. CEQA Senior Planners may be required to attend meetings or participate in work-related activities outside of normal working hours (evenings and weekends) in various community locations.

Qualifications:

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following ways:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in urban planning, architecture or a related field; AND
Five years of city planning experience OR a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in urban planning, architecture or a related field; AND Four years of city planning experience;
