This position is responsible for performing the more complex and difficult legal assignments which require a high degree of knowledge and skill in a specialized field of law dealing with disability retirement pension matters. The Senior Staff Counsel, LACERA in this role serves as the principal legal advisor to the Board of Retirement and staff on disability matters, including legal representation in writ of mandate proceedings before the Superior Court and Second District Court of Appeals. Counsel provides advice and direction to the staff of LACERA’s Disability Retirement Services in the review, eligibility determination and recommendations for granting or denying disability retirement.

Qualifications:

One (1) year of experience as Staff Counsel, LACERA.

– OR -

Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of public agency, administrative, public retirement, personal injury or worker’s compensation law.

LICENSE:
Admission to practice law in all California State courts.
