Description:

The California Joint Powers Insurance Authority (California JPIA) is one of the largest municipal self-insurance pools in the state. Through its programs, it provides liability, workers’ compensation, environmental, property, and earthquake coverage, as well as risk management training and loss control services to 117 cities and other governmental agencies.

The California JPIA is recruiting for a talented professional to fill one of two at-will positions of Senior Training Specialist. The Senior Training Specialist performs a wide variety of program oversight and project management activities to assure the successful implementation of the Authority’s training program. Work includes planning, organizing, facilitating, and evaluating training workshops and academies presented to Authority members, including the Authority’s risk management educational forum, and working closely with subject-matter experts in order to develop or oversee the development of content for a broad range of training initiatives. Research, market, and solicit new programs to expand the Authority’s training offerings. Conduct training needs analyses and determine training objectives and competencies; identify and facilitate appropriate adjustments to training workshops and program curricula.

Qualifications:

This position requires education equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in learning and development, business administration, risk management, or a related field is required. Associate in Risk Management (ARM) is beneficial. Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.

Candidates must also have a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in loss control, risk management, learning and development, field training, or a directly related field; and a minimum two years project management experience is required.

The successful candidate will be required to use his/her own personal vehicle for travel and will be reimbursed at the applicable IRS mileage rate. Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to comply with the provisions of the Authority’s Vehicle Usage Policy. The California JPIA participates in the PERS retirement (coordinated with Social Security) and health benefits programs. Refer to the job flyer for additional benefits offered.
