Salary: 

$4783 – $5814/month, plus an excellent benefits package, including a CalPERS Retirement Benefit formula of 2.7% @ 55 for individuals identified as “classic members” pursuant to the provisions of California’s 2013 Pension Reform Act.

The incumbent will supervise, assign, coordinate, review, and participate in the work of Agricultural and Standards Inspectors and Technicians. Conduct inspections and enforce provisions of the California Food and Agricultural Code, California Code of Regulations, California Business and Professions Code, and applicable Madera County ordinances pertaining to the operations of various segments/programs of the Agricultural Commissioner’s Office related to producing or utilizing agricultural and other plant products, and the function of weights and measures protective services. 

Qualifications:

The position requires:

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in an agricultural, biological or physical science, chemistry or any degree acceptable to the State of California Department of Food and Agriculture County Licensing Program.

Four (4) years of technical agricultural inspection and enforcement work, including one (1) year of experience comparable to an Agricultural & Standards Inspector III or a Senior Agricultural & Standards Inspector with Madera County.
Possession of the following eight (8) valid licenses issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture:

  • Pesticide Regulation
  • Investigation and Environmental Monitoring
  • Integrating Pest Management
  • Commodity Regulation
  • Pest Prevention and Plant Regulation
  • Weight Verification
  • Measurement Verification Transaction

Product Verification   or Possession of a valid License of Eligibility as Deputy County Sealer of Weights and Measures, or Deputy Agricultural Commissioner issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

Possession of, or ability to obtain by date of appointment, a valid driver’s license. A California Class ‘B’ driver’s license is desirable.
