Description:

The Public Works Department has an exciting opportunity for a Supervising Civil Engineer. The individual will supervise a section of the Engineering Division engaged in the application of engineering to a variety of Public Works street and storm drain capital projects, including construction and maintenance management programs; develop the City’s Municipal Regional Stormwater NPDES Permit; and coordinate the work of the section with activities of the Division and Department.
The Supervising Civil Engineer has status as a section head in the Engineering Division with responsibility for planning, organizing, directing and reviewing the work of professional and sub-professional engineering personnel including Professional Engineering Consultants, in the preparation of plans, specifications, designs, program budgets, project schedules, inspections, and other related program management activities. Strong administrative and supervisory ability, as well as thorough understanding of the technical aspects of engineering, are required, since the incumbents of the class are directly responsible for the operation on one of three engineering sections.

Qualifications:

Graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering; and five years of increasingly responsible experience in design and construction management of civil engineering projects, at least two years of which were at a level equivalent to the City’s Associate Civil Engineer. Must possess a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
