The Department of Public Works and Planning is offering an exciting and rewarding opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineering professional as a Supervising Engineer. The Supervising Engineer, reporting to a division manager, plans, directs, and manages the operations of a section or sections in the Department of Public Works and Planning. Responsibilities include planning, directing and supervising staff engaged in a variety of professional and technical civil engineering duties. Supervisory duties include selecting, training, developing, assigning and reviewing work; evaluating and disciplining subordinate staff; and communicating division policy and objectives to staff.
The current Supervising Engineer vacancy exists in the Design Division. The Design Division is responsible for the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for various Public Works
projects including roads, bridges, water and wastewater facilities, and landfill expansion and closures. The Design Division is also responsible for formation of County Service Areas and Special Districts, transportation planning, review of traffic impact studies in relation to development and design projects, consultant oversight, and County’s real property transactions. As the Assistant Design Division Manager, the Supervising Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to, responsible charge of the preparation of PS&Es for Public Works projects including roads, bridges, and other various Public Works infrastructure projects, and oversight of various sections within the Division.

Qualifications:

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system.
Experience: Five (5) years of full-time, paid civil engineering work experience equivalent to that gained as an Engineer with the County of Fresno, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity over professional engineering staff. Your job duties should accurately reflect the day-to-day activities of the position and the job titles of all the employees supervised. Failure to provide all the required information will

Registration: Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a civil engineer issued by the State of California, Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. Your Civil Engineer certificate number and expiration date must be listed on your application or your application will not be accepted.
License: Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent, may be required.
