11 California Counties Receive National Honors
NACo Announces Recipients of Annual Achievement Awards
Eleven California Counties are being honored in the 2016 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Awards. Three of those counties – Alameda, Los Angeles and San Diego — received “Best of Category” Awards.
For nearly 50 years, NACo has recognized innovative programs in county government through the Achievement Awards Program. This is an excellent opportunity for counties to promote successes and share best practices.
Of the 21 “Best Of Category” recipients, five were California County programs:
- Alameda County (1) – SafetyNet Program in Children and Youth Category;
- Los Angeles County (1) – Improving Healthcare for Incarcerated Patients in the Health Category.
- San Diego County (3) – The Fisherman Market and Pacific to Plate Program in the Community and Economic Development Category; Butane Honey Oil Lab Safety Guide for Emergency First Responders in the Emergency Management and Response Category; and Improving Probation Officer Effectiveness with Mobile Applications in the Information Technology Category.
Overall, the 11 California Counties to be recognized are:
- Alameda
- Los Angeles
- Madera
- Nevada
- Orange
- Placer
- Riverside
- San Bernardino
- San Diego
- San Mateo
- Sonoma
As a non-competitive awards program, each application is judged on its own merits and not against other submissions. Awards are given in 21 categories, culminating with an awards luncheon at the 2016 NACo Annual Conference and Exposition in Los Angeles County in July.
