Counties Deliver SB 1 Road Improvement Plans
City,County Plans $1.5 Billion Investment in Transportation
Counties all over California are making good on their promise to share road improvement plans with the state as part of the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB 1). The plans represent a solution to years of deferred maintenance due to a lack of funds. SB 1 will provide approximately $750 million to counties each year and the same amount to cities so they can begin addressing a similar problem.
“Local governments have had to delay basic street, road and bridge maintenance for years,” said Kiana Valentine, CSCA’s Legislative Representative for Housing, land Use and Transportation issues. “There just wasn’t enough money to do the job. We have crumbling pavement and aging bridges—but SB 1 is going to allow cities and counties to start making a meaningful dent in the backlog. The plans they delivered to the state represent a long list of shovel-ready work that will be getting underway soon.”
