Legislative Deadline Looms
Governor Busy Signing Bills and Vetoing Some
Governor Jerry Brown still has hundreds of bills passed by the Legislature on his desk with the October 15 deadline to sign or veto fast approaching. Rundowns of all of his actions on legislation to-date are available on the Governor’s press office website. While most of CSAC’s high-priority bills have already been signed or vetoed, a notable exception is SB 649, the so-called “small cell” bill.
“CSAC is advocating for a veto of SB 649,” said DeAnn Baker, CSAC’s Deputy Executive Director for Legislative Affairs. “This misguided bill would eliminate local government’s ability to negotiate fair leases for the use of public property and preclude counties from ensuring that disadvantaged communities also benefit when wireless services are deployed in the community.” CSAC’s letter requesting a veto is available on the CSAC website.
The Governor has signed three CSAC-Sponsored Bills, including AB 467, related to elections information, and AB 1284 and SB 242 to improve California’s PACE program.
