NACo Legislative Conference
California Delegation Heads to D.C. for Advocacy Event
February 24
A team of CSAC staff and county supervisors from all over the state are in Washington DC for the annual National Association of Counties (NACo) Legislative Conference that runs through Tuesday. The conference gives California Counties a chance to weigh in with our local congressional delegation on a variety of matters. It also gives California a chance to influence the issues and positions on NACo’s front burner for the year.
NACo Steering Committees and the NACo Board of Directors will consider a number of policy resolutions that guide NACo’s federal lobbying efforts. At the top of the list for California is the Affordable Care Act. “We are headed back to D.C. to discuss the importance of the ACA and its expansion to California counties,” said Cara Martinson, CSAC’s Legislative Representative & Federal Affairs Manager. “Our biggest concern is that there should be no repeal of the ACA without a simultaneous and comprehensive replacement plan that preserves safety net coverage for more than 14 million Californians. We are working with NACo as part of a strategy to reach out to other states and groups to help influence lawmakers.”
