NACo Seeks Members for Steering Committees
Great Opportunity for California Officials to Participate in National Issues
CSAC is the voice of all 58 of California’s Counties in the State Capitol. CSAC is also a proud member of the National Association of Counties (NACo), which represents Counties to the Federal Government. And just like CSAC, NACo is more effective when its members help set policy and share their expertise.
If you’ve ever wondered about getting more active in national issues, now is the time to join a NACo steering committee! If you have interest in a specific issue, expertise on a certain topic, or concerns about the effects of federal legislation on your county, then you should consider becoming a member of a NACo steering committee, open to Supervisors, County Executives and Department Heads.
Serving on one of these committees enables you to become actively involved in NACo’s policy process. The steering committees review legislation and make recommendations on issues that impact counties.
To join a NACo steering you must apply through CSAC, but the process is easy. Fill out and submit a nomination form to CSAC now! Nomination forms must be received at least one month before the 2014 NACo Annual Conference, which occurs July 11 – 14 in Orleans Parish (New Orleans), Louisiana.
A copy of the nomination form is available here.
NACo makes every effort to accommodate nominees’ first choice of steering committee assignments. Committee appointees serve for one year and cannot transfer membership to another committee, or serve on more than one steering committee, during that year.
If you are already a member of a committee, you must reapply now, as appointees serve one year terms. However, you can be reappointed to the same committee for consecutive years and you don’t need to fill out a new form. Simply email Sue Ronkowski at CSAC and let he know you want to stay on the same committee. This current nomination process covers appointments from August 2014 to July 2015. The NACo steering committees are listed below:
- Agriculture & Rural Affairs
- Community, Economic & Workforce Development
- Environment, Energy & Land Use
- Finance & Intergovernmental Affairs
- Health
- Human Services & Education
- Justice & Public Safety
- Public Lands
- Telecommunications & Technology
- Transportation
Take Action! Fill out your nomination form and submit it to Sue Ronkowski at CSAC today.
