The Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) recently released a publication about county jails in California. The publication, California’s County Jails, discusses the number and age of local detention facilities, population demographics, impact of realignment and proposition 47 and state’s role in building new local detention facilities. Additionally, PPIC released the Crime Trends in California publication, which discusses the decrease in the statewide property crime rate, violent crime increase and the variation of crime rates by region and category. The entire publication can be found here.
