Parole Suitability Notification

AB 898 (Gonzalez) – Support
As Amended January 13, 2016

AB 898 by Assembly Member Lorena Gonzalez would add a murdered firefighters’ former fire department employer to the list of those individuals that the Board of Parole Hearings (BPH) must notify of a pending parole hearing, in cases where the original criminal conviction was the murder of the firefighter. The notification requirement proposed by AB 898 will provide an opportunity for the fire department, together with the victim’s family and the surrounding community, to reflect on the actions of the individual and voice their opinion about a prisoner remaining behind bars or being released back into their community. AB 898 is set to be heard in the Senate Public Safety Committee on May 10th.

As Amended March 9, 2016

AB 1597 by Assembly Member Mark Stone would provide county jails the ability to expand their existing performance milestone credit earning programs to all prisoners. AB 1597 is set to be heard in the Senate Public Safety Committee on May 10th.
