Broadband Priority Areas Map is Now Available

January 12, 2023

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) recently published the Priority Areas Public Map, which provides the location and data about potential last mile broadband infrastructure grants. Each priority area is shown in a different color, and associated information and layers may be accessed in the map legend. Public comments on the priority areas can be made directly on the map by clicking the comments button.

The Federal Funding Account, administered by CPUC, provides $2 billion in grants for last mile broadband infrastructure projects to connect unserved and underserved Californians. Priority areas are defined funding areas that are presumed to be eligible under the Federal Funding Account. This grant program for last mile broadband infrastructure projects was created by CPUC with funding from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. Counties interested in applying can reference Decision 22-04-055 and Appendix A, which sets the Federal Funding Account rules and guidelines.

Related resources can be found on the Federal Funding Priority Areas webpage. CPUC anticipates that additional information on applying for last mile grants will be disseminated later this Spring.
