California Well Represented at NACo Annual Conference

July 8, 2021

This week and next, 53 representatives from 29 Counties, including CSAC President and Sonoma County Supervisor James Gore, 1st Vice President and Siskiyou County Supervisor Ed Valenzuela, and Immediate Past President and Orange County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett will represent California in person during the 2021 National Association of Counties (NACo) Annual Conference in Prince George’s County, MD. As NACo is offering the meeting in a hybrid in-person and virtual format, representatives from another six California counties will be participating remotely.

Tomorrow’s first General Session features Vice President Kamala Harris, followed by policy steering committee meetings where attendees will consider a number of policy resolutions that guide NACo’s federal lobbying efforts. CSAC is sponsoring two resolutions – one related to low-income housing tax credits (in partnership with Mono County Supervisor Kreitz and County Welfare Directors Association) and one related to the use of Federal Highway Administration emergency relief funds (in partnership with Santa Cruz County Supervisor Friend). The California Caucus will be held on Sunday evening. The Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives will speak during Monday Morning’s general session, which will be followed by the NACo Annual Business Meeting & Election.

In between, attendees both in-person and virtual have a host of sessions and meetings to choose from, on topics ranging from broadband and the American Rescue Plan Act to COVID-19 mitigation best practices, local workforce development, wildfire and disaster resilience, and much, much more.

Be sure to follow CSAC’s Twitter and Facebook for “as they happen” updates from the NACo Conference.
