Child Care Portal Launched for Essential Workers

May 7, 2020

Governor Newsom and the Director of the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), Kim Johnson, announced the launch of an online child care portal for essential workers. MyChildCare.ca.gov provides an interactive map for users to find child care placements. The portal will facilitate child care searches by location and provide health and safety details, availability, ages of children, capacity, and the resource and referral agency associated with the child care facility. The portal will be updated twice a week with the most recent hours of operation and availability in the child care facilities currently on the map.

Earlier this month, the Governor announced the release of $100 million from SB 89 funding to support subsidized child care slots and to ensure the facilities are safe and clean. Additionally, some of the $350 million California received from the in CARES Act child care funding will be available to further fund these efforts.
