CSAC Homelessness Action Team Meets
September 5, 2019
Wednesday, September 4, 2019, marked the first meeting of CSAC’s Homelessness Action Team. The team serves as a working group to ensure a coordinated county voice on addressing homelessness and emphasizing the vital role that counties play in service delivery to those who are experiencing homelessness. Given the scope of homelessness in California, the team is comprised of Supervisors implementing solutions in urban, suburban, and rural communities throughout the state.
All team members brought forth experiences to share as lessons learned or best practices to ensure counties are more efficient and informed in their response to this crisis. The need for flexibility in implementing solutions was a common theme, as well as support for Governor Newsom’s call for more regional collaboration. Additionally, team members discussed, and agreed on, the importance of reviewing existing research and reports on homelessness. While there have been significant developments since publication, namely the availability of funding, CSAC’s prior work with the League of California Cities to produce a Homelessness Task Force Report was discussed as an example of a toolkit available to local governments.
Consistent with the goals of the Homelessness Action Team, county Supervisors who serve on the Governor’s Statewide Homeless and Supportive Housing Advisory Task Force will now bring these ideas to the Task Force meeting on Friday, September 6, to ensure a strong and unified county voice.
CSAC’s Homelessness Action Team will meet again in the coming weeks to discuss the work of the Governor’s Task Force and again share ideas to put forth at future Task Force meetings.
