CSAC Hosts Regional Meeting on Homelessness
Through the many challenges over the past year, CSAC and California’s Counties have been partners in securing funding and resources to address critical issues facing our communities. A major issue that has touched every corner of our Golden State is homelessness. The FY 2021-22 State Budget includes unprecedented investments to combat homelessness across several state programs and counties are in a critical and opportune moment.
On Friday, August 13, 2021 more than 95 people virtually attended CSAC’s Regional Meeting on Homelessness which included a star-studded roster of presenters from the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom, the Departments of Social Services, Health Care Services, and Housing and Community Development, the Homeless Coordinating and Financial Council, the Abolitionist Roundtable, Shangri-La Industries and San Bernardino County.
Attendees were able to:
- Receive an overview of state investments in homelessness
- Gain information about several administered programs
- Learn about flexible funding opportunities approved for local governments
- Engage with expert speakers and other County supervisors and staff
In addition, presenters went over the need for wrap around services for the homeless, the importance of bridging services to housing, funding streams that were currently available, and future barriers to consider in moving forward with helping those who are unsheltered. The tone of collaboration and the great work that counties had already done were consistently shared by presenters and staff alike.
“Even though the past 1 ½ years have been difficult for everyone, California’s counties have stood strong – partnering, collaborating and addressing critical issues facing our golden state,” said CSAC 1st Vice President and Siskiyou County Supervisor Ed Valenzuela. Even with our historic achievements, “there’s still more work to be done.”
In addition to the various presentations that spanned topics, departments, and funding streams, CSAC staff also created a short video to jumpstart the conversation, which can be found here.
