CSAC Supports Bill to Allow Counties to Regionally Implement Laura’s Law

March 31, 2016

CSAC supports the concept of allowing counties to work together to implement Laura’s Law/Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) programs. AB 1764 was introduced by Assembly Member Waldron to allow counties already participating in or thinking of creating a Laura’s Law pilot program to offer, or to contract with each other to offer, assisted outpatient treatment services.

CSAC is working to ensure that the bill will work administratively for counties, and thus have a support in concept position at this time. However, CSAC supports allowing counties the flexibility to implement programs regionally and to decide whether or not to join the Laura’s Law pilot program.  Currently, 14 counties have implemented a Laura’s Law pilot project:

  • Contra Costa
  • El Dorado
  • Kern
  • Los Angeles
  • Mendocino
  • Nevada
  • Orange
  • Placer
  • San Diego
  • San Francisco
  • San Mateo
  • Santa Barbara
  • Shasta
  • Yolo

The Assembly health Committee will hear AB 1764 on April 12.
