Executive Order on CalWORKs

May 7, 2020

The Governor signed Executive Order N-59-20 that provides counties with additional flexibilities for enrolling individuals into CalWORKs in response to social distancing measures that are in place. Specifically, this Executive Order allows counties to accept certain verbal affirmations if an individual is not able to provide a physical signature, allows pregnant applicants to provide a sworn statement or verbal attestation to verify pregnancy, and waives interview requirements if certain conditions are met. In addition, this Executive Order allows a CalWORKs recipient whose income is below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level to qualify for a lump-sum financial assistance instead of CalWORKs assistance and disallows Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation from being considered as income for determining CalWORKs grant amounts.
