Expanding Access to Broadband with Get Connected! California
Mobilization is underway for the first Get Connected! California Month. In March 2022, The California Broadband Council issued a “Call to Action” to get 90% of all eligible low-income households connected to high-speed Internet by 2024. In response, state agencies and the Get Connected! Coalition are coordinating a month-long effort called Get Connected! California. If your county can help by providing sites, personnel, outreach, or other assistance, please fill out the online sign-up form and let the coalition know you are able to help get people in your county connected.
During the month of August, the Get Connected! Coalition will promote information about the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) to the 5 million eligible households in California. Any household that participates in the free and reduced-price school lunch program, CalFresh, or Medi-Cal is eligible for the ACP benefit.
For people interested in applying for ACP who need assistance completing the application, enrollment events will be hosted throughout the state on the first Get Connected! California Day, Saturday, August 27.
The coalition is looking for assistance from counties, schools, libraries, and CBOs to support this effort by arranging ACP enrollment sites and encouraging people to volunteer their time at an enrollment event on Get Connected! California Day. Training and materials will be provided to institutions, groups, and individuals interested in participating.
If your county can help by providing sites, personnel, outreach, or other assistance, please fill out the online sign-up form and let the coalition know you are interested in becoming a Get Connected! California Champion! The Get Connected! Coalition will provide additional information and resources to organizations that sign up to support Get Connected! California Month and Day.
