Funding for Broadband and Elections Explored in Upcoming Webinars
May 5, 2016
Two upcoming webinars this month feature not only informative updates but also funding opportunities for counties related to elections and broadband implementation.
On May 10, the Future of California Elections (FOCE) will host a webinar on elections funding, titled “Funding Democracy: The Future of Sustainable Election Funding and Governance.” A panel of county officials and leading researchers will explore the true costs of elections and strategies for providing adequate funding for elections. Registration is available here.
USDA Rural Development will hold a webinar on May 17 about the Community Connect Grant Program, which provides financial assistance to extend broadband into rural communities. The program offers funding for areas where broadband is unavailable at speeds of at least 4 Mbps downstream and 1 Mbps upstream. Grants may be used for construction, acquisition, or leasing of facilities, spectrum land, or buildings used to deploy broadband service for residential and business customers, and participating community facilities.
The webinar will include information about eligibility and regulatory requirements, as well as tips for a successful grant application; attendees must register for the webinar ahead of time here. CSAC supports the expansion of broadband to all parts of the state to drive economic development and job opportunities, support county service delivery, and improve health, education, and public safety outcomes.
