Getting to Know CSAC Legislative Assistant Glenda Higgins

CSAC legislative assistant Glenda Higgins plays an integral role in the function of the organization. Glenda has an impressive skillset having worked as a former Legislative employee for many years.

Originally from Sutter County, Glenda moved to Sacramento County in 1972 and also lived in San Joaquin County for a year. 

CSAC recently had the pleasure of learning more about Glenda’s background, goals, and motivations. Below are her responses.

Q: Please share a little bit about yourself.

I’m originally from Sutter County. My ancestors arrived in 1852. I then moved to Sacramento County in 1972, spent a year in San Joaquin County, and then moved back to Sacramento. I am a former legislative employee and came out of retirement to learn more about California and how CSAC plays an enormous role in helping our great state.

Q: What do you do for CSAC? What is your position title?

I assist Jacqueline Wong-Hernandez, Deputy Executive Director of Legislative Affairs. My position title is Legislative Assistant.

Q: What are you looking forward to while working at CSAC?

Learning more about how counties function and provide support to their residents.

Q: Do you have any work goals for the year?

My work goals are to upgrade my technical and research skills.

Q: What are you currently reading?

I’m reading “Wild Horses of the Summer Sun” set in Iceland and about Icelandic horses. Next, I plan to read ”Station Eleven”.

Q: What is a hobby you like to do? 

I bike ride! I mountain, commute, long-distance, and breeze along on an electric bike. I trail ride horses and have had a couple of lifetime trips to Point Reyes in Marin County and a week in Utah on the Red Rock Ride – Bryce, Zion, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Q: What is your proudest accomplishment?

Raising an amazing young woman – Alexandra, age 35!

Q: What motivates you to work hard?

I’m more comfortable working. Life is easier when I have a focus and something to build my day around.
