State Finance 101
State Controller John Chiang has posted to his website information explaining the basics of state finances. The site includes useful graphics and charts showing where the state’s money comes from and where it goes. With all the talk about realigning state revenues and programs to counties, now is the perfect time to brush up on the current system.
Board of Equalization Regulation
The Board of Equalization, which administers the state and local
sales and use taxes, is considering amending their regulations.
The regulations in question govern disputes between jurisdictions
about the allocation and characterization of sales and use
The amendments that BOE staff is suggesting to the Board aim to make the dispute process more timely and transparent, without jeopardizing the accuracy of the outcomes.
Staff is conducting an interested parties meeting this Thursday, February 17, and the Board’s Business Taxes Committee plans to consider the matter on April 26.
