Grants to Strengthen Law Enforcement Community Relations Awarded

The Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) has awarded 10 grants intended to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve totaling nearly $6 million. The BSCC received 46 applications requesting more than $24 million in funding. The grant recipients are as follows:

  • Alameda County Sheriff’s Department
  • Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department 
  • Monterey County Sheriff’s Department and Salinas Police Department
  • Vallejo Police Department
  • Bakersfield Police Department
  • Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield and King City Police Departments
  • Richmond Police Department
  • Stockton Police Department
  • Monrovia Police Department
  • Long Beach Police Department

The Strengthening Law Enforcement Community Relations program was established by the Budget Act of 2015 and allocates funding for a grant that would provide training for front-line peace officers on issues such as implicit bias, best practices, restorative justice programs and problem-oriented policing initiatives like Operation Ceasefire.
