HHS Policy Committee to Consider Ballot Measures

July 14, 2016

The Health and Human Services (HHS) Policy Committee will consider taking a position on two propositions on the November ballot when it meets on July 18. Proposition 55 is the tax extension to fund education and healthcare that would extend portions of the taxes voters approved as Proposition 30 in 2012. Proposition 56 is the cigarette tax to fund healthcare, tobacco use prevention, research and law enforcement. Policy Committee members will be hearing from both proponents and opponents of the measure during the meeting.

The HHS Policy Committee will also discuss homelessness issues, including an update on the No Place Like Home proposal and a discussion Los Angeles County’s proposal for an emergency declaration on homelessness. Additional agenda items include a preview of next week’s NACo Annual Conference, including proposed resolutions and events related to Health and Human Services.
