Implementation Guidance for Local Taxicab Regulations
Oct. 11, 2018
Starting January 1, 2019, cities and counties will be required to follow a new set of rules regarding the regulation of taxicabs. The changes are intended to create a level playing field for all models of for-hire transportation, including taxicabs, Uber, and Lyft.
Counties are encouraged to revisit their current taxicab ordinances and ensure proper compliance with AB 1069 (Chapter 753, Statutes of 2017) and subsequent clean up legislation AB 939 (Chapter 472, Statutes of 2018). For assistance, the Taxicab and Paratransit Association of California has developed an overview of taxicab administration changes as well as a sample taxi ordinance.
