This Month: White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health

September 15, 2022

On Wednesday, September 28, the Biden-Harris Administration will host the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health in Washington, DC. During the Conference, which will also be live streamed, the Administration will release a national strategy to end hunger and increase healthy eating and physical activity by 2030.

Over the summer, the National Association of Counties (NACo) submitted a set of county recommendations for combating hunger after receiving feedback from counties, including significant input from California participants during a county listening session hosted by NACo. The White House is also encouraging county governments to consider the following two actions leading up to the Conference:

  1. Make a commitment to advance the goal of ending hunger, increasing healthy eating, and promoting physical activity in your community. Counties are also encouraged to share steps they are already taking to eliminate hunger in their communities through this form. The White House plans to highlight actions local governments are taking on the day of the conference. A menu of examples of these actions can be found here.
  2. Host a satellite event in your county. The White House has created a Satellite Events Toolkit for communities to use, including tips for hosting a Conference watch party, community discussions, and a day of service.
