More Than 13,000 Providers Complete ACES Aware Training

October 22, 2020

The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and Office of the California Surgeon General (CA-OSG) in a press release, announced the completion of a report with summarizing the number of health care providers who have completed the “Becoming ACEs Aware in California” training through August 31, 2020.

As of August 31, 2020, 13,600 individuals have completed the ACEs Aware training. Of these, 8,300 are Medi-Cal providers eligible for payment.  Additionally, the two departments launched the ACEs Aware Provider Directory, which offers patients, as well as providers, a way to find and connect with ACEs Aware-trained providers throughout California.

DHCS/CA-OSG has released a fact sheet that provides a quick snapshot of the report.

The data indicate that the training is building awareness of the importance of screening for ACEs and that the initiative will drive actual practice change. After completing the training, two-thirds of participants indicated that they plan to address ACEs in their practice. Of the individuals who reported that they do not currently screen patients, 81 percent indicated that they plan to implement routine ACE screening for children or adults.
