New Website for SB 10 Information

The Judicial Council has recently added a section to their website to provide information about the coming changes to bail and pretrial release made by SB 10. The information can be found on the Policy and Administration tab on their website.

Senate Bill 10 (Hertzberg, 2018) will change California’s pretrial release system from a money-based system to a risk-based release and detention system. SB 10 assumes that a person will be released on his or her own recognizance or supervised own recognizance with the least restrictive non-monetary condition or combination of conditions that will reasonably assure public safety and the defendant’s return to court. The new rules are scheduled to go into effect on October 1, 2019.

The new section on the Judicial Council’s website gives an overview of SB 10, describes what SB 10 does, provides important information on the legislation, and answers frequently asked questions. This section can be found at: http://www.courts.ca.gov/pretrial.htm.
