Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory Board To Meet

July 7, 2016

A Board designed to help eliminate racial and identity profiling in law enforcement meets for the first time this week. Attorney General Kamala Harris established the Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory Board in compliance with Assembly Bill 953, by Assembly Member Shirley Weber. The Racial and Identity Profiling Act of 2015 calls for a board comprised of current and former law enforcement officials, attorneys, community and spiritual leaders, university professors, and civil rights activists.

The board will advise the Department of Justice in drafting regulations to govern the collection and reporting of pedestrian and traffic stop data; annually review and analyze the stop data submitted by law enforcement agencies; work in partnership with state and local law enforcement agencies to review and analyze racial and identity profiling policies and practices across California; and conduct evidence-based research on intentional and implicit bias.

The first board meeting will be held on Friday, July 8th at 10:00 a.m. in the Auditorium of the Ronald Reagan State Building, 300 S. Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013. The meeting agenda can be found here. The meeting will also be livestreamed at this link.https://oag.ca.gov
