Strategic Growth Council Offers Small Planning Grants

December 15, 2016

The Strategic Growth Council (SGC) in partnership with the Office of Planning and Research is pleased to announce the release of the Sustainable Communities Planning Grant and Incentives Program (SCPGIP): Best Practices Pilot, Guidelines and Application. SCPGIP funding in the amount of $250,000 will be available for applicants to apply for up to $50,000. These small grants are not intended to fund a long-range plan or project in its entirety, but must support local implementation of state policies, with a focus on creating more resilient communities through climate adaptation and mitigation.

According to the SGC, the Sustainable Communities Planning Grant and Incentives Program: Best Practices Pilot is an effort to support local land use planning related to climate and the State’s statutory planning priorities. The grants are intended to support the development and/or implementation of a specific portion of a land use plan, land protection or management practice, or development project, that targets sustainable development and the State’s climate policies with the express intent of 1) implementation of that project or plan; and 2) identification of a best practice and creation of a Case Study to share amongst land use planning and policy peers.

SGC has issued a request for proposals with a deadline of January 11th. For application questions or concerns, please contact scpgip@opr.ca.gov.
