Tree Mortality Task Force Recounts Achievements at 2nd Anniversary Meeting

November 16, 2017

It has been two years since Governor Jerry Brown signed the emergency order that established the Tree Mortality Task Force to deal with California’s tree death crisis. CSAC staff was in attendance during the Anniversary meeting this week when members of the Task Force shared their achievements ranging from an increased number of dead trees being removed from high hazard areas to increasing the number of prescribed burns and gains in the biomass energy creation process. The Task Force has made significant progress, but more work remains in tackling California’s tree mortality crisis.

CalTrans, a Task Force member, has created a helpful graphic to explain its tree removal process. They have begun using electronic signatures to acquire rights of entry from private property owners to help speed up the tree removal process. Please feel free to use this graphic to explain the process to your constituents. Please visit the CAL Trans website for more details.

Tree Mortality Staff recently conducted a review of the Executive Order Directives and created a report on its accomplishments to date. For more information click here.
