UPDATE: Board of Forestry Timelines

February 4, 2021

CSAC AENR has been closely monitoring the development of new Fire Safe Regulations at the Board of Forestry (BOF) over the past several months. These new Fire Safe Regulations will be extend beyond the State Responsibility Area into the Local Responsibility Areas Very High Fire Severity Zone and could have a major impact on counties. CSAC is part of a coalition of local government advocates that are working to impact the development of these new regulations. The Board has made changes from the timeline that CSAC shared in last week’s bulletin.

Please find the updated timeline below. CSAC is supportive of these changes in the timeline that will allow for a more detailed stakeholder review.

  • The BOF expects to release a new strikeout/underline draft of proposed changes on Monday, February 8th.
  • The BOF has canceled its previously scheduled February 9th workshop.
  • The BOF will schedule a new public workshop the week of February 22nd to discuss the new strikeout draft. The date and time for this meeting is TBD.
  • The Board will be requesting comments on the strikeout draft by COB Wednesday, February 17th prior to the workshop on February 22nd.

CSAC will send out the new strikeout draft when it becomes available to the county fire safe working group and put a copy of the document in the CSAC bulletin. When the new draft becomes available CSAC will strongly encourage counties to provide comments to the Board of Forestry about the impact of the proposed changes in your county. If you have any questions about this process please email Nick Cronenwett at ncronenwett@counties.org.
