Description:

The Assistant Director of Public Works manages and directs employees involved in the planning, development and implementation of department programs and projects involving the construction and maintenance of roadways, structures, buildings, solid waste disposal and recycling. This classification is administrative and managerial and reports to the Department Director. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of civil engineering and land surveying, and in administrative management including budgeting, financial management, effective employee supervision and training. Skill in planning and implementation of policies and procedures while assuring compliance with Department goals and objectives is essential.

Qualifications:

*A Baccalaureate Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
*Five years of professional engineering experience involving the design and construction of roads, bridges and related public works facilities, including four years of managerial or supervisory experience. A Master’s degree in Business Administration or Public Administration may substitute for two years managerial experience and a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering may substitute for one year of professional civil engineering experience.
*Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer with the State of California.
*Possession of a valid State of California Driver License
