Description:

The Contra Costa County Assessor’s Office discovers and assesses all property within the County. We are responsible for producing and delivering an assessment roll by July 1 of each year, valuing all real property, auditing all entities doing business in the County, and valuing all taxable personal property. We also establish and maintain a set of 11,000 maps for assessment purposes, delineate every parcel of land in the County, and provide a public information service to assist taxpayers with questions about property ownership and assessment. What you will typically be responsible for: *Examining accounting records and other related documents of commercial and industrial businesses *Inspecting and appraising business personal property *Interpreting and explaining tax laws and regulations to the public *Reviewing and discussing audit findings with property or business owners *Processing and assisting taxpayers with the annual filing of business property statements *Investigating complaints and making recommendations based on findings *Processing and preparing assessment appeal cases

Qualifications:

License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process. Certificate Required: Appointees must meet appraiser certification requirements established by the California State Board of Equalization within one (1) year of appointment. Education: Either: 1) Possession of a Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in accounting or a closely related field, which must have included at least 18 semester units or 27 quarter units of accounting and/or auditing; OR, 2) possession of a valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License issued by the California Board of Accountancy. Desirable Qualifications: Advanced knowledge and skills using Microsoft Office programs Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License issued by the California Board of Accountancy
