Description:

The position of County Counsel serves as the chief legal advisor to the Board of Supervisors. County Counsel also provides legal services and guidance through subordinate attorneys for all County departments, agencies, and special districts. This position has full responsibility for planning and directing the activities of the County Counsel Office. County Counsel is active and involved with local, state, and national professional organizations, including supporting and assisting the Board of Supervisors’ leadership and advocacy initiatives within state and federal policy arenas.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for County Counsel will have demonstrated knowledge, skills, background, and abilities needed to manage a municipal legal department, extensive civil trial experience, and experience pertinent to the key issues and direction Sonoma County faces. County Counsel is a credible communicator, with the ability to convey complex ideas and strategies clearly and effectively. County Counsel fosters, encourages, and expects excellent legal services from the Office’s Deputies and other attorneys; and holds all staff accountable for providing complete, thorough, well thought out and defensible positions and strategies.

Sonoma County offers a total compensation package that is both attractive and competitive. The position receives a cash allowance in addition to base salary.
