Description:

The City of Glendale, CA is searching for a strategic and visionary individual to lead the City’s Community Development Department. The City of Glendale (population 196,543) is a charter city, which operates under a Council-Manager form of government. Under the direction of the City Manager, the Director of Community Development plans, manages and directs the functions, activities and programs of the Community Development Department which include Planning, Building & Safety, Economic Development, Housing, Neighborhood Services, and Administration.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be a demonstrated leader capable of guiding a team through coaching, mentoring, and training in order to visualize the potential of the City and help achieve its goals. The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in city or urban planning, architecture, engineering, geography, economics, public or business administration or a related field. In addition, candidates must have ten years of comprehensive management level experience in one or more of the following areas: municipal planning; community development; economic development; redevelopment; building and safety; or housing. This experience must include two years as a department or section head over a complex organization. A Master’s Degree in a related field is highly desirable.
