Annual Salary: $73,601.40 – $81,145.56 Annually; Monthly: $6,133.45 – $6,762.13

Description:

Fleet Services Division provides various services to County departments including the acquisition, preventative maintenance, repair, and disposal of fleet vehicles and equipment. A major goal of the County is to reduce its carbon footprint by replacing internal combustion engine vehicles with zero emission technology vehicles. Equipment Mechanic performs diagnoses and makes mechanical repairs to automotive vehicles, trucks, road maintenance and construction equipment, and may be required to make repairs in field locations to return equipment to a safe and operational status and related work as required.

We are looking for someone who: • Possesses a good working knowledge of hydraulic, vac-hydraulic and air-brake systems • Has the ability to detect conditions that could affect the safe operation of automotive vehicles and construction equipment • Will work cooperatively with coworkers, lead technicians and members of customer departments • Possess a complete understanding of the materials, tools and practices used in automotive and heavy equipment maintenance and repair • Provides excellent customer service • You will work in a department that values work/life balance

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the applicant process. A valid California motor vehicle license Class B must be acquired prior to completing probationary period and must be maintained throughout employment with Contra Costa County.

Experience: Either
1) Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an Automotive or Equipment Mechanic and one year of full-time or its equivalent journey level Automotive or Equipment Mechanic experience; or 2) Three years of journey level Automotive or Equipment Mechanic experience.

Special Requirement: Must possess/own small and large hand tools, and work aides necessary to perform mechanical automotive and heavy equipment work.
Special Requirement: Employees in this class are subject to drug and alcohol testing under provisions of the County’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
