The County of San Luis Obispo is recruiting for a Groundwater Agency Director to directly oversee all aspects of the County’s Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) responsibilities, including Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) implementation. This is a newly created management position which will report directly to the County Administrative Officer (CAO) with significant interaction with the County’s Board of Supervisors. The incumbent’s primary focus will be leading and implementing solutions for long term groundwater resources management The GSA Director will ensure effective legislative and regulatory compliance; facilitate and collaborate with inside and outside stakeholders to ensure stakeholder interests and concerns are being addressed; and provide overall strategic direction to ensure the County’s groundwater strategy is effective and successful. The individual selected will oversee the selection, management and success of a group of groundwater sustainability consultants who will be responsible for the implementation of GSPs.
The County is seeking candidates with previous administrative experience in water resource management programs. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, Hydrogeology, or closely related area of study is highly desirable but any combination of education, training and experience that could provide the required knowledge and abilities would qualify. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of Sustainability Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) legislation and guidelines. Additionally, they will have strong knowledge and experience in current methods, technologies, principles and practices of water resource management.
