Description:

The California State Association of Counties (CSAC) is recruiting for a Legislative Analyst. We’re looking for an analytical professional interested in working on pressing issues in California, to better our communities and meet the needs of all Californians.

As the voice of California’s 58 counties, CSAC is a trusted broker of information about the effects of state laws on counties and helps develop and communicate policies that directly impact the programs and services provided by counties. In California, counties are responsible for providing nearly all state and municipal services. We communicate our positions to the Legislature, Governor’s office, agencies, commissions, and other state bodies through testimony, letters, and meetings.

The legislative analyst position supports CSAC’s advocacy on behalf of California’s counties to the state and federal government. Legislative Analysts are responsible for tracking and analyzing legislative and budget proposals, preparing research documents, preparing agendas for and participating as a resource in CSAC policy committee meetings, and writing letters, reports, and articles concerning proposed legislation and the state budget.

Qualifications:

We are seeking candidates with strong analytic problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong relationship-building skills.

An ideal candidate would have experience with and knowledge of legislative research, county government functions and operations, the legislative process and its relationship to county government. Superior writing skills are highly desirable.

Knowledge of the state-local fiscal relationship, general government issues, policies that impact county operations, and/or housing and transportation policy preferred.

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and two years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in county or state government, the Legislature, or working with those entities, preferred.

How to Apply:

Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter and resume to resumes@counties.org.
